So, I begin with the greatest of intentions. I just want a place to talk about things that are important to me...
And, for those interested, share any new information or learn any answers or solutions for other moms like me just trying to be a little more earth-friendly.
I hope that this blog will constantly be updated with exciting and new information but... let's be honest... that can only happen if I have help so, if you have any great green tips or ideas, let me know and, in turn, let everyone know!

Soy candles, they are a renewable resource, and most do not have lead wicks like most regular candles. Good job NIKKI!!!
We have been using the NVision light bulbs (they are the spiral shaped ones) for about two months now and have noticed a decrease in our electric bill, plus they are more energy efficient! I thought the commercials were full or crap, but they really do work!
Great idea Nikki! This has been on my mind a lot recently!! Instead of using the styrofoam cups, paper plates, & plastic utensils they provide at work, I keep a reusable plastic cup, bowl, & plate in my desk drawer. I also keep a coffee mug for my morning coffee & a knife & spoon in my drawer as well. All of this cuts down on the amount of trash I throw away daily!
Nikki, I had no idea you were all about this stuff! :) I think out where we live there is a strong drive to be earth friendly (because of all the Boulder hippies), but I love it too. We just started using a compost bin in our yard this past month.
I also switched laundry detergent and dishwashing soap and both work great, I don't notice a difference between them and the other stuff I was using (Tide or whatever was on sale). It's the "Planet" dishwashing soap and "Seventh Generation" powder laundry detergent.
I heard about a website that is suppose to stop junk mail! I don't know if it works or not but I am going to try it. https://www.greendimes.com/
I thought of a couple other things I do: I don't get a receipt at the gas pump - I don't really need it & it is just more paper that will have to be thrown away. If I have a cup of water & am not going to drink it all, I pour the leftover into my watering pail (to use on my flowers) instead of pouring it down the sink. I tried recycling my bathwater to water my flowers - but that didn't last long since I had to carry the mop bucket up & down the stairs a few times. Good exercise, I know, but I'm not that dedicated *yet*. :)
Nikki, we are slowly trying to phase out plastic. It seems like an impossible task, but the important thing is starting. Step 1- get klean kanteens for every member of the family (they even have a sippy for Eli). We love ours. I am so happy you are starting this site! I, too, am a busy mom trying to find ways to keep the earth clean for my son. Yay!
Oh and forgot... New book just came out that has a lot of great ideas: Healthy Child, Healthy World or you can check out the organization's website at healthychild.org.
